Civil Services Exam (also known as IAS exam because of popularity for IAS among other services) is conducted by UPSC every year for recruiting officers in the top level civil services of the government of India - IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS and others. This exam is one of the most competitive exam in India because of the number of candidates who appears for this exam compared to the number of posts available.
Civil Servants for the East India Company used to be nominated by the Directors of the Company and thereafter trained at Haileybury College in London and then sent to India. Following Lord Macaulay’s Report of the Select Committee of British Parliament, the concept of a merit based modern Civil Service in India was introduced in 1854.
The Indian Military Academy, Dehradun (IMA) is the officer training Academy of the Indian Army. IMA was established in 1932. The academy is located at the foothills of the Himalayas in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.
The Indian Naval Academy (INA) is the initial officer training establishment of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. It is located in Ezhimala, Kannur district of Kerala. The INA has a 7 kilometre beach front on the Arabian Sea. It conducts basic training for all officers inducted into the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.
The Officers Training Academy, Chennai (OTA) trains officers for the Short Service Commission. It was established in 1963. The academy is spread over 750 acres about 15 km south of Chennai, India. In 2011, a new academy was set up at Gaya. The 49-week course at the OTA prepares graduates for all branches of the Army, except for the Army Medical Corps.
The Air Force Academy was established in 1969 and started in 1971. It is located at Dundigal, about 25 km away from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The academy was set up to train cadets from all streams at one location. It imparts training to the Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches as well as officers of the Army, Navy and Indian Coast Guard.
On successful commissioning, the pay in the Pay matrix of the Officer commissioned is fixed in first Cell of Level 10 and the period of training is not treated as commissioned service and arrears on account of admissible allowances, as applicable, for the training period are paid to cadets.
The government has decided to add two additional attempts for all candidates with effect from the current year in the civil services exam. The move is in line to provide more time to adapt to the changes effected in the Civil Services examination pattern in March 2013.
The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) has introduced few modifications in the answering format for its future examinations. UPSC will not give separate answer papers from this year. You have to concise your answers and write within the space provided underneath the question in the same booklet.

49 candidates (22 General including 4 PH-I, 16 Other Backward Classes, 7 Scheduled Castes and 4 Scheduled Tribes) have been recommended for appointment as SCR Apprentices in the Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers.
Every year, UPSC conducts Engineering Services Exam. About 1 lakh candidates apply for the exam.
The exam schedule for the Civil Services (Main) Exam has been released by the UPSC. The Main examination will be conducted from 28 September to 7 October, 2018. The morning session is held from 9:00 am to 12 noon while the afternoon session is held from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The UPSC conducts Indian Forest Service (IFS) Main Examination. Paper I is conducted in forenoon session (9.00 AM to 12.00 PM) and paper II is conducted in afternoon session (2.00 PM to 5.00 PM). The Main Examination for Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2017 will be held from 3 December, 2017.
