ISS - Indian Statistical Service 2025
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts a combined competitive examination for recruitment to Grade IV officers of the services of Indian Economic and Indian Statistical Services.

Eligibility Criteria
Education: You should have postgraduate degree from an Indian university in Statistics or Applied Statistics or Mathematical Statistics.
Age: You must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August of the year of exam. The upper age-limit is relaxable under certain conditions.
Exam Pattern
Part I is written examination carrying a maximum of 1000 marks. Part II is viva-voce of such candidates as may be called by the commission, carrying a maximum of 200 marks.

Statistics I and II are of Objective Type Questions containing 80 questions with maximum marks of 200 in each paper to be attempted in 120 minutes. Statistics III and IV are of Descriptive Type with Short Answer or Small Problems Questions (50%) and Long Answer and Comprehension problem questions (50%). At least one Short Answer and One Long Answer Question from each section is compulsory.
The papers on General English and General Studies, common to both Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service are of subjective type.
